How are songs chosen, and why do videos end on the beat?

Videos start on the downbeat of a loud part and end at the end of a musical phrase.

Clean musical endings

For every song we analyze the beat grid, so each video:

  1. Starts on the "one" of a bar, in a loud part of the song.
  2. Ends at the end of a phrase (8 beats) when one is close to the length you want — otherwise at the end of a bar (4 beats), always inside your length range.
  3. Fades out over the last third of a second.

Cuts between shots move onto a beat when one is nearby, but never at the cost of a good shot.

That's why a video may be a bit longer or shorter than the middle of your range — it's landing on the music.
